Key Stage 4
A new, exciting and relevant course for students is now here. It includes many topic areas that are interesting to learn about and enables students to build up a wealth of skills that are important for the world of work in the future and which employers look for. Students will focus on current issues designed to inspire and motivate them, enabling them to explore their place in the world, their values and responsibilities to other people and the environment.
Students will develop essential skills like problem solving, questioning, decision-making and critical thinking about issues affecting the world and people's lives. Geography has strong links to other curriculum areas, like science, citizenship and ICT.
Students follow the AQA specification for Geography A. Students are awarded a grade at the end of the 2 years but the course is modular.
Students will sit unit 1, Physical Geography, in year 10 and then unit 2, Human Geography, in year 11. Students have the option to re-sit the year 10 examination the following June. Both of these exams are worth 37.5% and are 1 hour 30 min long.
Controlled assessment tasks are worth 25% of the total marks and the focus of this will change on an annual basis.
